Postwar Architecture in Italy and Germany
- Sonja Hildebrand
- Matteo Trentini
The course intends to invite reflection on the ambivalence and effectiveness of architecture in the two countries that saw the birth and underwent the experience of Nazi-Fascism and its brutality, by investigating the role and function of the architectural discipline within the broader effort of reconstruction. We will focus on both the theoretical debate and architectural practice, looking at their reflections on urbanism and the single architectural object, on buildings constructed from scratch and reconstructions. Examples in Germany and Italy will be dealt with, tracing similarities and differences between the two experiences.
