20th Century Architectural Heritage
- Roberta Grignolo
Conservation, restoration, reuse
The course firstly offers a cultural, theoretical and critical framework for recognising the recent heritage as a historical, symbolic and aesthetic resource, and/or as a bearer of functional, technical, social, economic and ecological values. Assigning a building to a historical-critical collocation in relation to these parameters comprises the “fabrication of the heritage”, considered an integral part of an architect’s design work. Through a broad range of case studies, the course provides a method for devising criteria of intervention and precise solutions for each specific case (reuse and management of large complexes, conservation and restoration of “modern monuments”, functional and regulatory updating, city-wide conservation, etc.).
Oral final exam.
