Mario Botta was awarded with the Premio Chiara alla Carriera 2021. Founded by the Amici di Piero Chiara in 1997, the award is attributed to the highest personalities in the fields of literature and culture.

The founder and ex-director of the Academy of Architecture of USI has been awarded with the Premio Chiara alla Carriera 2021. This award was attributed to architect Mario Botta in recognition of his work and distinctiveness of his architectural language, rooted in North-Italian and Ticino's territories, which could enter in contact and be developed all over the world. The works of Botta are also present in Canton Ticino and in Switzerland. Among them, there are the Teatro dell'architettura in Mendrisio, the "Fiore di Pietra" on the Monte Generoso, the renovation of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Municipal library in Dortmund, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte (US), and the Tsinghua Art Museum in Beijing.
