From 13 to 28 February, Ex Asilo Ciani Lugano will host "Unfolding the River", an exhibition featuring projects developed by students from the Pedrozzi Atelier at the USI Academy of Architecture during the autumn semester 2025.

The exhibition presents 13 projects developed along the Cassarate River. These projects emerged from design research examining the relationship between architecture and the urban landscape. The students began by critically analysing the existing conditions and exploring the interrelationships that shape Lugano. They questioned the constraints, potential, and unique characteristics of each site.

The educational project was carried out in close collaboration with the City of Lugano, which identified the sites for intervention, thereby offering students the opportunity to engage with real, current issues of urban transformation. The Cultural Observatory of the Canton of Ticino and the Idra Association also collaborated. The workshop was directed by Professor Martino Pedrozzi, with the collaboration of assistants Jonathan Bello and Eugenio Thiella.

The inauguration will take place on Friday, 13 February at 6:30 pm at the Ex Asilo Ciani.

Speakers:

  • Karin Valenzano Rossi, Municipal Councillor of the City of Lugano
  • Gabriele Balbi, Interim Rector of the Università della Svizzera italiana
  • Martino Pedrozzi, Full Professor, Academy of Architecture, USI
