Eva Prats

The studio proposes to work with the urban heritage, in order to discover the physical and emotional reality contained in existing buildings and to test their capacity to adapt to new conditions of occupation. The city will be Barcelona, and the area will be the old industrial and working-class neighbourhood of Poblenou.

 

EDUCATION
Studied architecture at the ETSAB, Barcelona School of Architecture, graduating in 1992. As student obtained a Special Mention at the Annual Architectural Award Nicloau Rubió i Tudurí in 1991 and 1993.
Took part at the summer workshops for European Architectural Students in Athens (1985), Turin (1986) and Helsinki (1987).
Participated at the ILAUD course in Siena, 1991.
Was an invited student at the Staedel Schule in Frankfurt, in the spring of 1992, where she developed her Final Thesis Project.
Doctor of Architecture by RMIT since May 2019 with her Thesis ‘To observe with the client, to draw with the existing. Three cases of architecture dealing with the As-Found’ directed by Jo Van Den Berghe, Leon van Schaik and Martyn Hook.

PRACTICE
Collaborated as a student at Enric Miralles and Carme Pinos’ office, from 1986 to 1991, especially in the projects: Pedestrian bridge at Lleida, Civic centre at Hostalets, Igualada Park and Cemetery, Rambla at Reus, Social Centre at La Mina, and Garau-Agustí House in Bellaterra.
Collaborated as Design Architect at Arch. Enric Miralles’ office, from 1991 to 1994, especially in the projects: Sports Pavilion at Huesca, Centre for Rhythmic Gymnastics at Alicante, meditation pavilion at Unazuki, Japan.
In 1993, won the EUROPAN III International Housing Competition, starting her own practice in 1994.
In 1998 established in Barcelona the office of architecture Flores & Prats Archs, with Ricardo Flores.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITY
Guest professor at ETH Zürich since 2019.
Co-director with Ricardo Flores of a 5th Year Design Studio and Final Thesis Design Studio at ETSAB, focused on Rehabilitation and Housing, from 2014 to 2019.
Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning at the Master of Urban Design Barcelona, and at the RMIT – Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology campus in Barcelona, since 2014.
Professor of a Third Year Design Studio at ETSAB, dedicated to Housing, from 2002 to 2014.
Co-director with Ricardo Flores of a Final Thesis Design Studio at UIC Architecture School in Barcelona, from 2009 to 2012.
Co-director with Ricardo Flores of a Studio at the Masters in Housing at the UPC, from 2004 to 2012.
Double-Workshop Barcelona-Sydney in both 2005 and 2007 with 3rd and 4th year students of both the School of Architecture of Barcelona and the University of New South Wales of Sydney, Australia.
Guest professor at Arizona State University in Phoenix, spring semester 2000.
Co-director with Ricardo Flores of Invitations, International Design Workshop at ETSAB-UPC, part of the Master Programme ‘Architecture. Critique and Project’. Invited architects were: Enric Miralles in 1998, John Hejduk in 1999, Juan Navarro Baldeweg in 2000, Cedric Price in 2001 and Clorindo Testa in 2002.

Eva has been Invited to direct architectural workshops at universities like the Royal Academy of Architecture in Copenhagen, AHO Oslo School of Architecture, Newcastle University in England, Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, Sydney University and University of New South Wales in Sydney, Facoltà di Architettura La Sapienza in Rome and Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Facultad de Arquitectura de Buenos Aires and the School of Architecture of Barcelona, among others.
Eva has participated in the Architecture & Care conference, ETH Zürich (2019), Ultzama International Campus 2017 – Humanize the City, the IX Congress DO.CO.MO.MO Iberian in San Sebastian (2016), and invited to present the book The Space Between, third volume of the trilogy about the work of Alison and Peter Smithson, together with Max Risselada, Louisa Hutton, Dirk van den Heuvel and the Smithson family (2016).
Eva has been a jury member for the AR New into Old Awards (2021), International Drawing of The Year prize for students, at Aarhus School of Architecture (2019), the competition for the new building of the Technical School of Architecture (ETSAE) in Cartagena (2017), at the 9th International Biennial of Art Riudebitlles – Work on Paper (2016), the 15th edition of La Biennale di Archittetura di Venezia 2016 (Eventi Collaterali Program), Biennial of Architecture of the Vallès, 2016, FAD International Awards 2013 and VIII AJAC Awards Competition for Young Architects (2012).
